To reduce barriers to a physically active lifestyle, the Rutgers Kinesiology and Applied Physiology (KAP) program trains aspiring researchers, coaches and trainers, and healthcare professionals. Our goal is to make physical activity and exercise more accessible, more effective, and more sustainable for everyone. By doing so, we can reduce the burden of diseases, like obesity, cardiovascular disease, and dementia AND continue to optimize human performance.
The Exercise Science program (M.S.) trains students to work firsthand with various populations, from teaching basic exercises to optimizing performance. Our students can select one of two tracks:
- The Exercise Physiology track can lead to careers in healthcare settings, like cardiology offices, bariatric surgery clinics, and hospitals. Exercise Physiologists help people find their way back to health through physical activity.
- The Strength & Conditioning track can lead to careers in the fitness and wellness sector as well as in sport and athletics. Strength and Conditioning Specialists work to optimize human performance in elite athletes as well as other high fitness/healthy active populations
The Kinesiology and Applied Physiology program (M.S. & Ph.D.) trains students for exercise- and health-focused research careers in academia, government, military, and the tech industry. Our graduates go on to jobs at places like NASA, Oura, Veteran’s Administration, and Lebanon Valley University.
